Two weeks later... and making good progress!

Two weeks have now passed since the first construction began!
The weather has been exceptionally dry and sunny for this time of year, resulting in very good construction progress.

The excellent holiday and construction weather however also meant that further planting had to be minimized until there is a reasonable amount of rain!

If all goes well, week three will see the installation of water, telephone and a temporary electricity terminal, as well as several foundations completed with slaps.

Pictures explained (from top):

1. Some minor planting continues.

2. The restaurant foundation is ready for the gravel filling to arrive.

3. The restaurants filling has arrived and has already been leveled and compacted.

4. All ten bungalow foundations are ready for filling and two have already arrived.

The construction begins... Finally!

After another month of further preparations, the building has finally begun! The pictures below show some of the progress made in the first two days, and if the weather stays dry (we have not been having much of a wet season so far), we should be able to progress quite well. After so many months of satisfying bureaucracy, everyone is extremely excited to finally see the building process in full swing!

Pictures explained (From the top):

The "first" picture shows the initial positioning of the Restaurant building, using concrete blocks.

In the "second" picture you see the Contractor/Supervising carpenter measuring the exact location and hight of the foundations.

In picture "three" you can see the Restaurant foundation after the measurements and foundation preparations (including steel reinforcements) have been completed and the first few foundation brick have been placed.

The final picture "four" shows the private residence foundation at an already slightly more advance stage!

If all goes well from here, there will be more noticeable progress (more often) and this blog will hopefully be updated more frequently from now on, enjoy!!!

November Update!

The fence is done and the foundation bricks have been delivered as well. See picture for safe Island style brick stacking... they have been re-stacked by the way ;-)! For the past month we have been busy clearing old tree trunks and roots from foundation locations as well as from areas were trenches will need to be dug for the electricity and water pipes. If all goes well, construction will commence in a couple of weeks. We have so far been provided with all (but one) Ministerial Go aheads for the project!

New rates after relocation and the issue of distance?

Many visitors have expressed their concern over the past few months, that with our move to the beach, our rates would surely increase significantly.

This message is to assure all our former and future guests, that our rates have never been based on what can be charged for a product but what needs to be charged for a product in order to operate and maintain the facility! Indeed, there possibly may be an increase, but this will be marginal, depending on any increase in operating costs due to transportation (i.e. free international inbound airport pick up "with almost twice the distance") as well as trips to and from town!

By the way, we are planning in several convenient and low cost options for getting around on Tongatapu, so that the remote location of Ha'atafu Beach Reserve will never be an issue! More info on these will be available in early 2010!

Hope you enjoy the Blog!

Access road is completed and the project is moving forward, finally!!!

Another month has past and in comparison to the last half year... a lot has happened!

The building of the access road is complete, the excavator from New Zealand (for the trenching work) has arrived and the construction of the border fence has started.

An update on the fence work will follow as soon as the pictures are ready.

Artist's 3D Impression

The First draft of the Artists 3D Impression is ready, note though that only the "already existing" trees and plants are actually included in the drawing at this point. The botanical gardens that are to be moved from the current location are proving to be a bit of a challenge to the artist!
The Road construction has now also begun and a post on this will follow shortly so please visit the blog again real soon!
